Senator Bernie Sanders has long been a thorn in the side of the Big Pharma machine, and today, he has suddenly found an ally in President Donald Trump.
After Trump held his press conference today in which he blasted the pricing of prescriptions and profit margins in the pharmaceutical industry, Bernie Sanders took to Twitter and fired off a Tweetstorm of support for President Trump.
He later told the Huffington Post:
“You know what?” Sanders told The Huffington Post in an interview. “He’s right. And I’ve been saying that for years,” Sanders added. “Pharma does get away with murder. Literally murder. People die because they can’t get the prescription drugs they need.”
Pharmaceutical companies have the highest profit margins of any industry in the world. Prescription drug prices are increasing by an average of over 18 percent per year, with the cost of widely used specialty treatments surging by more than $53,000 per patient a year in 2013 alone. Something must be done and Trump seems set on doing it.
Picking up the support of someone as well respected as Bernie Sanders will go a long way in getting things done.
