The case of Angel Isabella Frady (June 25, 2014 – October 5, 2014) is about as sad as it gets. It is every parent’s nightmare scenario: A perfectly healthy child suddenly passes away for what seems inexplicable. In the case of Angel, her death wasn’t so inexplicable. In fact, Angel had, two weeks prior, received eight vaccines. She was two and a half years of age at the time. “During this visit, she was given 8 vaccines (DTaP, IPV, Hib, Hep B, Pneumococcal and the oral Rotavirus vaccine). As stated other places, these are the current vaccines on the schedule given routinely to 2 month old babies in the US,” according to Angel’s family member.

Shortly after the visit, Angel suffered from bruises on her legs at the points of injections. She also became “fussy” and suffered a fever. She was eventually found unresponsive. She passed away on October 5, 2014, exactly two weeks after being vaccinated.

This morning, a list of vaccine injury petitions filed to the vaccine injury compensation program listed Angel’s name on it. The list is public record. This would mean her family has filed for compensation. No amount of compensation will ever be enough for them. However, the grueling process that is the vaccine injury compensation program could cause them more unnecessary agony. Angel’s death was ruled “undetermined” by coroners.

The fight with a Government program that’s essentially used to protect the pharmaceutical industry can be a lengthy, rigorous process. A child’s injury is always assumed to be caused by anything other than vaccines. The Government’s protective stance over pharmaceutical interests means parents often suffer humiliating, tiresome procedure. In some ways, the vaccine injury compensation program simply discourages people from filing. The program created to “help” victims actually discourages them.

We hope that Angel’s family finds some nugget of justice and that she rest in peace.
